DAY 10: MAY 28, 2000 Sunday
NAME: Sue Barling

Transfer to Sangat Island

We left camp, which was when the nostalgia began. It was lifted once we arrived at Sangat where the excitement of a toilet and long showers took over. Paradise? So many angles to a paradise really, the major one being sand fleas and mosquitoes. After a delicious lunch we went around the island to snorkel the gunboat wreck and reef. Good fish life, unfortunately Helen the jellyfish magnet was plagued again, it really is quite remarkable how they gravitate to her, the whole time we were out in the water the rest of us didn’t see a single one! It was fun diving down to the wreck, checking the anemone and coral until the bursting need for another breath.

The rest of the afternoon was spent with the “library” but too much to absorb in such a short time especially with so much chinwagging to be done.

The evening was a group event with other people staying there, shared food, conversation, experience, hilarity and much more (for) which I’ll leave someone else to recount. My constitution cannot bear to revisit that territory yet! I feel so lucky to be with such a lovely, fun, caring bunch of people – I don’t (believe) it is just me that thinks this.
