On mid-range single shock mountain bikes (or double shock at additonal price) we blaze through carabao (buffalo) trails, bamboo groves and farmland, penetrating rainforest and fording streams to reach the coast via single track heaven.

Busuanga is an island with mostly dirt roads and you can do as little or as much biking as you want with a 4×4 pick-up shadowing on the driveable roads or meeting cyclists after single track stints. The great plus for a car-supported trip is that Tribal Adventures can carry a spare bike as a replacement.

The trip may start anywhere on Busuanga. Our favourite, very full-day trip is SandCastles-Amaha-Sinibayan-Buluang-Ocam Ocam on 90% rough dirt roads and tracks. Other, easier but still very exciting options are the Sugod tracks, the old airport trail and Decalachao to Buenavista.

The choice is made easier by the season. When wet from June to October the Sugod tracks are awesome with dozens of creek crossings and plenty of opportunities for a dip. When it’s drier from November to May the carabao trails of Sugod are more forgiving and the track is at its fastest. This is the trail that has the most canopy from trees and bamboo–so it’s the coolest whatever time of year.

Hot riding is done on the more used tracks and roads. A combination is the SandCastles to Ocam-Ocam trip: it’s rock pools at the foot of waterfalls at Sinibayan AND a lovely beach to take a swim when arriving (or departing) at Ocam-Ocam. Yes, with a car pickup/drop off, the trip may be run in reverse.

Tribal Adventures has a couple of Giant dual suspension bikes priced at an additional 2,000 pesos a day. Pre-reservation essential.
