Malumpati River Gibon River Hurom River

ITINERARY

8 am Depart Boracay for meeting in Caticlan
9 am Departure by jeepney, van or bus for Malumpati Trail, 30 minutes drive via Nabas, Aklan. Alight from bus for 3.2 km walk along ridgeline, glimpsing panoramic views to the sea. (Bus proceeds 15 km by road to Malumpati Cold Springs: guests may opt to take bus).
10:30 am Walkers arrive Malumpati, meeting up with bus. Merienda, native morning snacks and coffee/tea precede leisurely swim, hike to source of Malumpati River. (Kayaking of river can be done by prior arrangement-max 6 persons per trip: duration of 4 km paddle is 45-75 minutes).
12 noon Lunch (or by 1 pm down river on bank for rafters on Cold Comfort program). The river, officially called the Bugong, but Malumpati to most everybody else, has been adjudged again and again as the cleanest river on Panay. A beautiful blue colour, the river feeds surrounding rice paddys as it winds through forests of ancient trees, bamboo and nipa palm. It has a descent of 60 metres from its source to the sea so the current is gentle, giving the river a gradient of Class 2 at the source and Class 1 at mid-stretch.
2 pm Depart Malumpati by bus, driving to Hurom-Hurom Cold Spring on the Gibon River, near Nabas.
2:45 pm Arrive Nabas. Afternoon tea (merienda) follows of fresh coconut juice. Guests can lie in the wading pools or take a guided walk up the river to get a glimpse of upland Philippine life. Avid walkers can reach waterfalls or find the source of the Gibon River-literally a hole in a hillside. Local guides have a lot to say about what the local geology (and ecology) means to them-fresh river shrimp, a sustainable way of life, a lot of fun particularly for the children.
4:30 pm Depart for Caticlan, arriving Caticlan 5pm and Boracay at 5:30 pm.
