Hike up the highest mountain in the Calamian, Mt Dalara via what is called the Pali route. A challenging 4-6 hour trek, this adventure provides the hikers with an unparalleled panorama of some of the over 200 Calamian Islands from atop Mt Dalara.
At the top of Mt. Dalara there is a plateau, and within it, a hollow where ball games can be played or tents can be pitched. It is a spectacular backdrop to a game of rugby, football, Frisbee or lunch.
The hike down from Mt Dalara is done via the Balisungan route. Though less precipitous than the ascent from Pali, the scree of the steep mountainside makes the descent arguably more difficult. Care needs to be taken. Shade is also scarce. Sure-footed fitness is required, the hike is not for the faint-hearted or those lacking fitness.
Near the bottom of the route down are a few rock pools, where in the rainier months you can have a dip before continuing on to the end of the trail at Kina Johns elevated restaurant in the village of Balisungan. There will eat a hearty merienda of Philippine delicacies like pancit noodles, lechon.
You’ll be picked-up by van or tricycle and driven 15 minutes to Maquinit Hot Springs to soak and soothe the tired muscles over a cool drink.
A 4×4, van or tricycle will ferry you back to your Coron hotel after unwinding in the hot spring for up to an hour.
