So helpful sorting our trip and equipment last minute! We went to loads of amazing spots and they know the best times to take you so it is less busy - so so worth doing the private tour! Lunch was delicious - fresh tuna fish grilled and served on the boat!! Ate in a beautiful, peaceful lagoon. Kayaked around the cliff edges, through peaceful mangroves and stunning lagoons. We went to shipwreck spot, Kayangan Lagoom + viewpoint, Twin Lagoon, Hidden Lagoon, Siete Pacados marine park - all beautiful! Thank you Vida - best tour guide!!!!

We had quick responses from Greg outlining exactly what our experience would be and what we needed for a challenging day of hiking. Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We rented 2 Tsunami175 Sea Kayaks for an independent wonderfull kayak tour of 10 days. Better kayaks you can unfortunately not find in the Phillipines, because all of them are sit-on-top kayaks and are not sufficient for a trip like ours. Making an individual tour was quite unusual for Tribal but they we're OK with it. Greg rightfully did not want to rent out his personal glasfiber kayak. We're happy he did not do that since the Tsunami kayaks are less fragile and for sure his personal kayaks would have been damaged (sometimes you drag the fully loaded kayaks on the beach and hit a rock) Vida was extremely helpfull with planning the itinerary. Thanks! From my western point of view and mindset, the planning of the trip could have been better. I sometimes make the mistake in expecting western standards when I pay high western prices (as in this case). Next time please waterproof(or sealed)maps where we can see where we are allowed to camp and a list with relevant gps coordinates. Later I understood that making/planning the itinerary was not part of the rent contract (although you can argue when you pay 60.000 peso uf they can include a few hours labour) So when you do the same thing, state clear your intentions and don't mind to pay a bit extra for the planning. And check the seat of the kayak. Mine was broken ( and visibly repaired the phillipinian way, I.e fishing line). The first few days I thought my bottom had to get used to it 🙂 and did not have a good look. It was just on the fifth day that I saw what was broken and repaired it the Dutch way (i.e. long term solution). We were very happy, we had good contact with Tribal and I highly recommend them to you.

Got picked up at the hotel, boarded the boat and went for a day of amazing adventures! Vida was the perfect guide and suggested an intenerary but was super flexible and asked for our wishes. We spent the day snorkeling, kayaking and swimming in the most beautiful lagoons and lakes. And they have REAL kayaks, not those awful clear canoes. She even did her best to beat the crowds and time our visit to the popular places. The guys on the boat was super helpful with the gear, cooked amazing food and served us snacks all time. If you are looking for a private tour and to escape the crowds, this is the place to go!

Snorkelling and kayaking through genuine picture-postcard vistas, looking at beautiful fish on the reefs, and eating good food cooked on the boat. Nothing was too much trouble, and they adored our kids- Our daughter (4) even told Vida -"I love you as much as chocolate". If there's higher praise than that, I don't know what is. We would definitely go again, and we would ask for Vida and Olig again especially.

The weather was not alway sunny but the crew was. They spoiled us with snacks, lunches and a good diner. We slept in a tent on a beach set up by the crew including blankets and a towel. We're sailing into Melanesia, first stop Samarai island in Papua New Guinea. We oft forget the origin story of Melanesians dating back to waves of migrants coming out of now Indonesia and the Philippines 60,000+ years ago. If you're as eager as us to wind back the clock, join Tribal Adventures on a trip to Tabon Cave, Palawan. What an idyllic location: over 100 caves, just one partially excavated, the site of "Tabon Man". The caves overlook a pretty beach and a fine coral reef. The only major dig was in the 1960s by Professor Robert Fox, and it just scrapes the surface of the origins of homo sapiens in the Philippines.
The date for Tabon Man? 22,000-20,000 years ago when there was a land bridge between Borneo and Palawan towards the end of the last Ice Age. It's 38 years since Tribal Adventures Founder and former foreign correspondent Greg Hutchinson visited Thursday Island.
He was sent by Reuters to report how celebrating 200 years of white settlement might be read as a large slap in the face for the continent's First Nations people. That he witnessed.
He failed, however, to predict that in December of that same centenary year of 1988 White Australia would be slapped right back Winding back. Thursday Island is the administrative centre of the Torres Strait Islands who's most famous son, Eddie Mabo, took government to court and ultimately won Native Title for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. (Regrettably, Mabo died before he got complete legal vindication from the High Court).
The Court junked the legal fiction of Terra Nullius that deprived Indigenous people to ownership of their land and waters and in turn gave a green light to settlers to thieve and rob. In its place, however, the High Court outlined the notion of Native Title.
Now in 2026, Greg leaves a cruise ship for two hours and walks the streets of Thursday Island again. Native language is used on signs, he sees a people with a renewed pride in their identity.
At the Post Office, the post boxes appear as derelict as the colonial minds that justified the subjugation of a whole continent's population on the basis of a legal fiction.
