The original Hike + Bike tour was designed to follow the 31 kilometer trek across Busuanga that children took to get to school. All your money went to build the first Cheey High School, so that students no longer had to take the arduous two-way weekly hike across the island.

With the school now built, the children no longer have to walk the length of it. Instead, we blast it!

We offer the following itineraries:

  1. The Sugod trail to Roger’s or Regie’s farm at a 2/5 rating
  2. The full trail to the west coast & Salvacion or vice versa at a 4/5 rating, reflecting a challenging degree of difficulty balanced by cool conditions of rainforest biking.
  3. The Amaha-Sinibayan-OcamOcam trail at a 4/5 rating (the high rating indicative of a longer and hotter ride rather than the degree of technical difficulty).

What we do for the children? For the 2023/24 school year we donated 15 mountain bikes to children with the longest distance to trek to school.

For 2025/26 we’re enticing those kids who are now adults to return as guides and story tellers. Join us, it’s a delicious experience: they cook whatever they catch and forage. A typical meal is river shrimps & gabe cooked in bamboo vessels and eaten off banana leaves.

The Sugod trails wend their way from Minit in Cheey west through farmland, bamboo woods and jungle, crossing creeks up to 20 times. One branch of the Sugod trails leads up Mt Pina and through thick rainforest and lush farmland to the east coast, a cycle of some 30 awesome kms.

On the other hand, the network of single tracks and feeder roads east of Mt Pina cover some 20 kms, with a divine detour of the hinterland of Cheey’s barrio covering a further 10 kms. Easily accessible from expedition base SandCastles, these trails provide both exhilaration, forest cover and culture. They are ideal for those who want an easy or moderate ride.

The Amaha-Sinibayan bike trail takes you through cogon grass farmland (grass used for thatched roofing of local houses), before transitioning to a single track of tropical rainforest with its impenetrable canopy.

At Sinibayan Waterfall, your guide offers a morning snack as you take a well-deserved relaxing dip in the cool rock pools fed by the small waterfall. The dip serves a refreshing purpose: the next stretch through a sprawling cattle ranch dotted with the occasional tree is hot. But after pushing through to Buluang, you get to one very pretty ride under trees through tiny hamlets connected by a narrow single track to Ocam-Ocam Beach.

There, we find a friend who cooks a mean pasta and noodles–a rewarding late-lunch before a swim, ahead of the drive back to SandCastles (or Coron town if that’s your end-point).
